1. How the hell is it March already?

I’ve counted, and I spent one — just one — weekend in Houston in February. And that one weekend was way more social than usual, so it almost doesn’t count (it certainly doesn’t count for the long-and-growing list of house things I need to do, like find an effing recycling center that takes glass and shred the pile of junk mail that’s been accumulating since September).

I keep meaning to blog as I go on these weekend adventures, but as the title of this blog indicates, I’m mediocre at best when it comes to keeping up a bloggy routine. So, just to put it all out there, here’s a quick rundown on the last few weeks. Photos TK. (That’s copy editor speak for “to come.” Don’t ask me why we abbreviate a “c” word to a “k”. We just do.)

    Here we go:

    • Five weekends ago: Visit to Wichita, catching up with the near and the dear ones.
    • Four weekends ago: Boston visit, including an amazing lunch at the Isabella Stewart Gardiner Museum with Smithie friends who traveled from Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and central Mass. for the occasion. Also, Super Bowl watching at Sharon & Zack’s with lots of pink cocktails and Trader Joe’s finger food. Not very macho, but super delish.
    • Three weekends ago: Tail end of New England visit, including nephews’ soccer and basketball games, Valentine’s Day dinner out in Burlington and an overnight in the boonies with the in-laws.
    • Two weekends ago: Back in Houston, but had an out-of-town visitor. Introduced Marc to the odd and chill atmosphere of Cedar Creek. Joined him, Billy and Kelly a few days later to see Jay-Z in concert. Oh, and brunch with Dan and Cathy. Mimosalicious.
    • Last weekend: Flew to West Palm Beach Saturday for Leslie’s bridal shower. The wedding was the next morning (moved up from June. And no, she is not preggers). Flew back to Houston Sunday, right after the reception.

So, now it’s March. A few days ago my calendar looked distressingly empty. But then I got this note from my 20-year-old cousin:

    Hey,
It’s Sonia. I would love to come to Houston if you can have me I would come March 4th through the 8th or 9th. Please let me know soon so I can make your mommy buy me a ticket. Thanks. :)
    Love,
    Sonia

She arrives Thursday night and leaves Tuesday morning. Wonder how much trouble we can get into in four days…
