1. I feel like I got hit by a truck…

… oh wait, I did get hit by a truck. A Toyota Tundra.

Yep. Just headed home from work last month, crossing the street behind the Chronicle building. Heart lifted up because Jeff was finally coming home from the NCAA tournament.

I’m halfway across the road, in the crosswalk mind you, when I feel a sharp push… thunk… and I go ass over teakettle to the ground, leaving one of my heels behind on the asphalt. First thought: WTF? Did I just get hit by a car?!

No. I got hit by a large, black truck, driven by a small, pale man. Never saw him coming, so I can’t answer the cops and insurance agents about how fast he was going. It couldn’tve been that fast, since he didn’t break any limbs or run me over. Still, one friend swears my slight injuries are due to my strength:

Darling, do you have a tall tale for your friends in Boston now! I don’t suspect too many people get hit by a truck in Texas and live to tell about it. You’re made out of steel. I hope you put a big ass dent in his fender!

Really, I’m just so thankful that I came out of it with only a few bruises, since people in the weeks since keep telling me about worse accidents at that intersection. And then this happened a few blocks away. Another reminder to take every day as a gift (It also made me feel like a shmuck for complaining about the four-hour wait at the ER for a nurse-practitioner to examine me, confirm I wasn’t seriously hurt, and send me home with a few high-powered Aleves. But apparently I don’t feel too shmucky, or I wouldn’t repeat the complaint here.).

So now the bruises have faded and I’m doing physical therapy for the lingering muscle strains. Not sure how best to cope with my new-found anxiety when a big pickup pulls alongside me in traffic. Therapy, maybe?
